FIRE. DEATH. PIANO. INSPIRATION. TRIUMPH. GREAT STORY!
I want introduce you to Jamie Conway, a new client of mine. You may recall the horrific story about the “Station Nightclub Fire” in Rhode Island on February 20, 2003, where 100 people died. It was the 4th deadliest fire in U.S. history. Jamie was one of the last survivors to be pulled out of the inferno that night. He lost his best friend at the time and seven other friends died that night. He had second degree burns on the right side of his face, ear, right hand and foot, in addition to intense pain in both shoulders from being trampled in the doorway of the club. As a result of being pulled out by his left hand, many muscles and tendons in his hand and forearm were damaged and torn. Also, his lungs were severely damaged from smoke inhalation. Jamie suffered from intense emotional distress for many years that followed.
I am contacting you because the world needs to meet Jamie, an incredibly talented piano player and savant. Jamie lost 90% of his piano playing ability in his left hand as a result of being rescued. He has had an on-going, 25 year-plus struggle with crippling Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and has overcome battles with severe depression. I think Ellen is the perfect show to share his triumphant story and showcase his unique talent and playing style and his determination to create a happy life for himself, inspire others and move beyond his limitations. His piano playing will “wow” the masses and Ellen without a doubt, but beyond that, his story will inspire many people and give them hope and determination when hard times hit. Jamie is largely self-taught and he does not read sheet music, yet he plays by ear and has a song list in his head of over 2,000 songs and has the ability to transpose songs in any key on the piano. (Check out his incredible, original arrangement of a medley from The Wizard of Oz here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bRYsIfnJvI.)
As time went on, Jamie developed a positive outlook, re-trained his left hand and decided to pursue his dream of becoming a national pianist and recording artist. In 2010, Jamie signed his first contract with Green Hill Records in Nashville to record a CD that would go international. “Elegant Piano Romance – The 70’s” was released on February 15, 2011 in stores and iTunes all over the world. For the last 25 years, Jamie has played piano in Boston and up and down its South Shore, starting out in Boston’s famed Faneuil Hall Marketplace. In the last five years, he opened for Ronan Tynan, the famous Irish Tenor, at the North Shore Music Theater on September 9, 2014. He also performs at a couple special restaurants weekly. As of July 2015, Jamie secured an on-going recording contract working on CD’s with the same team from 2011, including “Elegant Piano Christmas” (completed in October 2015) and is currently working on a second Christmas album and an 80’s-themed album.
It would be great to see Jamie and his incredible talent shared with the world. After watching Jamie play and taking in his sound, one realizes that his style and skills are very similar to Liberace, Jim Brickman, Yianni and Eroll Garner, yet with a modern twist. Jamie also composes his own music which is very film-oriented and “movie-esque,” with lots of heartfelt passion and intensity.
I look forward to hearing from one of Ellen’s producers or Ellen herself. Jamie Conway is a survivor and true inspiration. He is deserving of the opportunity to perform and to reach people in a meaningful way.
